2nd Lieutenant Darion Darroux of The Royal Montserrat Defence Force on Training at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst

It has been indicated that Mr. Darroux’s attendance was made possible through support of the British Defence Adviser’s Office based in Jamaica.

On hand to see off Mr. Darroux were Major Alvin Ryan, Commanding Officer of the RMDF and Lt. Glenroy Foster Adjutant of the RMDF.

The Royal Montserrat Defence Force (RMDF) recently announced that 2nd Lieutenant Darion Darroux is currently away on training in the United Kingdom, undertaking the Officer’s Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.

According to information received from the RDMF; "This course commenced on January 28th, 2019, and is slated to run for 8 weeks."

The Officer’s Commissioning Course is described as being an intense, challenging course designed to teach the fundamentals of soldiering and develop Officer Cadets as leaders. 



The course is divided in four modules each, with a two-week duration. The topics covered includes:

  • Foundation in Military Skills

  • Tactical Command as well as Command

  • Leadership and Management

The course has an enrolment of 36 Officer Cadets, with 8 of these being from military units from within the Caribbean region, and Asia.

This course is the same course that reserve officers of the British military, as well as other officers in training from around the world attend to qualify for their commissions.



It has been indicated that Mr. Darroux’s attendance was made possible through support of the British Defence Adviser’s Office based in Jamaica.

On hand to see off Mr. Darroux as he departed for the UK were Major Alvin Ryan, Commanding Officer of the RMDF and Lt. Glenroy Foster Adjutant of the RMDF.

The Force extends best wishes to Mr Darroux on this training opportunity; looking forward towards his return to Montserrat upon successful completion.
