I avoid violent and overly sexualized dancehall music, but there are a few dancehall artistes that entertain me. Every now and again a song hits the airwaves that gives me food for thought. If it's set to rather hilarious lyrics, it's on heavy rotation. Beenie Man's "Dude" and Lady Saw's "I've Got Your Man" are two such songs. They are packed with words of wisdom for the rest of us.

According to Lady Saw, if he's tired of that stuff you've got or if you're stuff is just a little slack, be worried. Your man is up for grabs. Ladies, if you've missed a day of kegel, panic now. One hundred a day keeps your man from going astray. Similarly, men, if you don't tie your woman to a fan or do her in a van, she will find someone who will, if that's what she wants. Men, do your homework because you might not be able to deliver the freaky stuff she desires.

These two songs put sex and performance at the center of the relationship, and if you come up short, loose, too soon, or God forbid not at all, there will be consequences and repercussions. Heads will roll because the only thing that's important in a relationship is getting yuh proper fix. Right?

Beenie goes on to tell us how he possesses the magic, as all men think they do, to put any woman in a trance, turn her around, and make her belly dance. I imagine this poor woman thinking what type of crap is this, and fakes her orgasm as she thinks about the next dude, but I digress. Ladies, be careful what you ask for. You never know what type of freak lurks around the corner. Lady Saw, on the other hand, gives us one other great reason why she's got our man, and this this is where we need to pay attention.

"He told me you don't give him room nor give him breathing space
And when he's out with friend you call and get up on his case
He wants a girl that's down and cool, not all up in his face
That's why I'm here with him cause I'm about to take your place."

Yes, leave it to Lady Saw to call us out on our B.S. Another woman has our man because we're stifling him. When it comes to relationships, any relationship, there is freedom in giving the other person their space, allowing that person to have a life separate and independent of us, and feeling secure in the fact that he will return. This is both healthy and sexy.

One of the huge problems in relationships is that we get upset when people withdraw. The result is that the other person becomes afraid to take a time out because they fear our reaction. Ladies, if we have to police our relationships, it's not love. It's not love if we're suspicious, and it's not love if we're assuming all manner of evil.
