Ambassador Greene who is Professor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies is renowned across the Caribbean and internationally for his work on HIV/AIDS, social development, poverty alleviation and social development. "Honorees like Ambassador Greene or Ambassador Eddie as he is called by many friends and colleagues, has not only set a high standard in international relations and science diplomacy, he has changed the game", said Dr. Claire Nelson, ICS Founder & President. "It is indeed our privilege to recognize his work and worth and to honor his outstanding contributions to public service."

In 2012, Dr. Greene was appointed as the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for AIDS in the Caribbean. In this role, he has advocated for greater access to affordable medicines, prevention and treatment services for persons living with HIV and AIDS, and for the elimination of AIDS related stigma and discrimination, including the human rights of LGBTI and for sustainable financing for AIDS. More recently he has led the campaign with the Caribbean First Ladies for reducing violence against women and children, teenage pregnancy and cervical cancer and for making the Caribbean the first region to eliminate mother to child transmission of HIV.

During his tenure at CARICOM Secretariat as Assistant Secretary-General for Human and Social Development he crafted the blue-print for the establishment of the Pan-Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) which was declared by the UN as an International Best Practice in 2004. He also successfully orchestrated a partnership between CARICOM/PANCAP and six large pharmaceutical companies. This led to a landmark agreement resulting in an enormous reduction in the price of antiretroviral drugs for the Caribbean.

Ambassador Greene has received several awards including, Suriname's second highest national honor, Grand Officer in the Order of the Yellow Star in October 2010, National Honors from Guyana 2012, and the Life Time Youth Award from the Caribbean Youth Ambassadors Corp for his stellar role in the region's youth and development agenda. He is academically trained in economics, the behavioral sciences, international relations and political science. He is the author of 10 books and over 60 articles in journals and books.
