Another matter of environmental concern having to do with sand mining is once again being highlighted on Montserrat. The location of concern is the popular Old Road Beach area of the island.

Attorney-at-Law Jean Kelsick, has once again written to the Minister with responsibility for the Environment, Hon Claude Hogan, seeking a response from Minister Hogan as it pertains to alleged removal and stockpiling of beach sand from the northern end of Old Road beach, close to the Vue Pointe Hotel's once popular beach Bar - The Nest.

Attorney Kelsick, in his letter to Minister Hogan, has asked for clarification from the Ministry as to whether permission was granted to mine sand at the beach, and the name of the authorised person/s whom this permission was granted to.

Attorney Kelsick has submitted his written request with the authority granted under the island's Conservation and Environmental Management Act.

A date of 24th June, 2016, has been set as a deadline for a response from Minister Hogan and his Ministry.

Updates to follow as more details become available.
