The weekend of January 29th - 31st, was host to the 2016 Niagara Icewine Festival, that took place at t the Scotiabank Convention Center,
Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada.
The Icewine Festival is a wine tasters delight, with wineries from all all across the Niagara region of Canada coming to together at one grand occasion to celebrate Canadian wine.
The Festival last weekend began at the Fallsview Casino Resort grand hall. However, the spirit of the Icewine festival is more so for the patrons who attend to sample to various offerings of wines and icewines; some of which are not sold locally at the LCBO, but can be specially ordered from the wineries themselves.
Commenting on the event, Kimberly Hundertmark, the Executive Director of Niagara Grape and Wine Festival said; “This is the most beautiful time of the year, the snow is a beautiful backdrop.”
She further shared; “We have the Falls obviously, you’ve got the icon itself beside the icewine of course. The wineries are all doing just incredible wine and food pairings."
Besides the wine, gourmet chefs were on hand preparing various savoury delicacies that complimented your wine of choice.
Visitors to the Icewine Festival were able to enjoy more than 20 of Niagara’s winemakers' best wines, icewines and sparkling wines.
The entertainment for the Festival featured local group Jonesy on Friday night. Then on Saturday night headliners were the U2 Tribute band Desire, and the Beatles tribute band, the Caverners. On Sunday, the event concluded with Soul Jam.
Patrons and wine lovers will be looking forward to the 2017 Icewine Festival, quite possibly at the same venue as this year's.
