For Atlanta Carnival 2017, the Atlanta City Council have given official recognition to Nick "Daddy" Friday, and The Awesome Jam Band for their contribution to the City's Carnival celebrations over the years.

This is a great honour being bestowed upon Daddy Friday and the Jam Band, for it was their live performances at Atlanta's Carnival that many party people who attended the celebrations looked forward to immensely.

This honour follows on the back of the Virgin Island's Carnival Committee, during St Thomas' Carnival 2016, deciding to dedicate the Carnival and the Village theme to Daddy Friday and The Awesome Jam Band.

As I had previously stated in an article about Daddy Friday, great lyricists are not easily found in the Soca music fraternity across the Caribbean, and indeed the world. Many write songs but how many can truly write lyrics that are imaginative, commanding and at the same time pulsating?

Daddy Friday was in a class of his own as a lyricist, and this he used to great effect in propelling the Jam Band, along with his other band members towards being the best band that graced the stage or the road in the Virgin Islands or wherever they played live.

Even in death, he is still considered the Greatest of All Time, and the Jam Band is still considered the standard-bearer that other bands aspire to be like, or seek to come close to their 21 Road March victories. A record that is sure to remain for many many years to come.

Well done to Daddy Friday and The Awesome Jam Band on this high honour!
