Basil Chambers' Annual Charity Cricket Match raised EC$4,400 for the Meals on Wheels programme on Montserrat. The funds have been handed over this week to the Managers of the Meals on Wheels Programme on island.

Basil's charity match took place on Sunday, July 8th, at the Little Bay Playing Field.

Last year the Charity Match raised EC$10,000 for the Meals on Wheels programme, and this year they have once again raised substantial funds for this good cause! This amount was raised despite the threat of Tropical Storm Beryl, and the slow economic conditions facing the island.

The games on Sunday featured two T20 games between the Paul Lewis 11 vs Mundu 11. This was followed by the Basil Chambers 11 vs the Jaison Peters 11.

The first match between the Paul Lewis 11 and the Mundu 11 ended in a draw, with both teams scoring 68 runs apiece. Man of match was Dolston Tuitt of the Paul Lewis 11. Dolston also was the Best Batsman. The Best Bowler was Stevel Rodney, also of the Paul Lewis eleven. Hon Minister Lewis took two wickets in the match, but only managed to score one run!

Both Hon Lewis and Hon Osborne will share the match trophy between them.

In the second match that featured the Basil Chambers 11 vs the Jaison Peters 11, Jaison's team emerged victorious having scored 164 runs, with the Basil Chambers 11 scoring 132 runs.

Local cricketer Jaison Peters is soon to be on his way to join the Leeward Islands Hurricanes team in St Kitts.

Congratulations to Basil and his entire team for this great event that helps the elderly on island have a better quality of life.
