The weather is putting a bit of a damper on finalising the site preparations for the first event for Festival 2014, the Calypso Eliminations this Friday December 5th.

The event has had to be rescheduled to next Wednesday December 10th 2014.

One of the main reasons is the present condition of the grounds at the new temporary venue due to the rainfall which has made it impractical to complete the site preparations in time.

Public safety and the need to ensure that spectators and calypso fans enjoy the outdoor event to the fullest were also taken into consideration.

In order to ensure the safety of the public it has been decided to postpone the show until next Wednesday December 10th by which time all works, including drainage and safety measures will be completed.

Consideration was given to relocating the Calypso Eliminations to the Cultural Centre but that was rejected as redeployment of the support resources to that venue is not easily accomplished at this time, it was explained.

The decision to reschedule the event was made by the Festival Committee.

In the meantime several other events will still be available for the public to enjoy this weekend.

One of them is the Leeward Islands Basketball Tournament which is being hosted by Montserrat this year and will be held in the new multipurpose sports complex at Little Bay.

That tournament will be held at the indoor facility over the period including Friday December 5th.

One senior official has also noted that with both the Calypso Eliminations and the Leeward Islands Basket Tournament in the same location on the same time and time, that would have potentially created an activity overload in that area.
