Canada"s Largest and Longest-running Muslim Convention Concludes With the Caliph"s Keynote Address

More than 25,000 people from 32 countries attended the three-day Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada, held at the International Centre. The concluding session featured a keynote address by the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at, the Caliph, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, as well as remarks by various dignitaries and parliamentarians, including the Mayor of Toronto, John Tory. The entire event was broadcast live to millions around the world on Muslim Television Ahmadiyya – the community’s global satellite TV network.

In his keynote address the Caliph urged his followers to not only abide by the true, peaceful teachings of Islam as taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), but also to demonstrate Islam’s beauty through word and deed.

The Caliph emphasized the importance of presenting the true face of Islam, in contrast to the anti-Islamic rhetoric often presented in Western media. The Caliph also advised that if people want peace to prevail in society, then the only solution is to accept and adhere to the true teachings of Islam.

Mayor John Tory, in his remarks at the convention, stated: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to congratulate and extend a warm in-person welcome to the Caliph, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad. His Holiness has been a strong leader and a powerful voice in the promotion of peace and harmony around the world.”

Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Hon. Navdeep Bains, who presented an official message from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, expressed: “We are a country of fairness, justice and the rule of law. These are the values that we have in common with the Ahmadiyya community – diversity and inclusion. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada is pleased with the success of its 40th Jalsa Salana and is determined to continue its quest to present the true, peaceful teachings of Islam to all Canadians.
