TORONTO, Nov. 17, 2017 - The Canadian International AutoShow, in partnership with Performance Auto & Sound magazine (PASMAG), is sponsoring an online competition for modified cars called Tuner Battlegrounds: AutoShow Edition, in which the winner will be crowned at the annual AutoShow next Feb. 16-25 and awarded a $5,000 cash prize.

It marks the first time a cash award has been offered in the Canadian tuner competition, Performance Auto & Sound Publisher Tim Rutledge says. “Our Annual Championship has been taking the top finalists to the SEMA show in Las Vegas for five years now,” Rutledge says, “and we’re thrilled to be able to bring it home to Canada with this special edition. The AutoShow is the perfect venue to celebrate and reward the best builds from the burgeoning tuner community.”

The competition is open to anyone owning a modified vehicle or the builders who modify them. And the winners will be decided by automotive enthusiasts in online voting. As well as a cash prize for the Grand Champion, an exclusive print feature will be published in the magazine and there will also be giveaways from sponsors at participating events.

Those interested have until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2018, to enter. Then, all competitors will battle it out over six stages to be crowned the 2018 Tuner Battlegrounds' AutoShow Champion.
In Stage 1, which ends at midnight Jan 18, all except the top 32 vote earners will be eliminated. Stage 2, which ends Jan. 25, will see another 16 entries gone in head-to-head battles. From then until the last day of the AutoShow, Feb. 25, four more eliminations will determine one Grand Champion.

All voting will be done online until only the final eight remain. The finalists’ cars will be on display at the AutoShow, beginning on opening day, Feb. 16, and everyone - the automobile enthusiast community, car fans, show-goers and friends and families of the contestants - will be able to vote for their favourite.

Says Rutledge: "PASMAG’s editors prepare each entrant's profile with the provided photos, specs and stories behind the builds. Competitors then promote their personalized page throughout their social networks of family, friends and club members, asking them to vote for them. The unique head-to-head battles provide for lively engagement across the platform as competitors fight for every vote. With show-goers being able to vote onsite throughout the 10-day show, it adds a new dimension, which we’re excited to see.”

Tickets are now on sale for the AutoShow, presented by the Toronto Star and wheels.ca, which will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre Feb. 16 to 25. Available at the AutoShow’s website, www.autoshow.ca, Early Bird tickets can be purchased today for $18 – a saving of 25 per cent from the regular price of $24 – until Dec. 31, 2017. After that, tickets will be available online at a 10 per cent saving until the show opens on Fri., Feb. 16, at the beginning of the three-day-long Family Day Weekend in Ontario.

AutoShow General Manager Jason Campbell thinks features like Tuner Battlegrounds will attract even more people in 2018. “The Tuner Battlegrounds will feature the most elite, tricked-out and modified cars ever seen at the AutoShow,” Campbell says. “This initiative is a direct answer to the many hundreds of Show attendees who wrote to us looking to see more from the tuner community. We’re happy to give Canada’s top enthusiasts a chance to show their stuff at the biggest automotive showcase in the country and answer the call from our consumers.”
