Little Bay, Montserrat, February, 2017. The Tourism Season started with the arrival of weekly cruise ships to our shores. From December 2016 to February 2017 Montserrat has been a stop for several cruise vessels including Star Legend, Serinissimo, Le Ponant, Sea Dream and Saga Pearl II. The Star Legend will continue its weekly stops to the island until April 2017.
It is also anticipated that during this period a few other ships will call into Montserrat including the Jeans for Freedom Ferry from Guadeloupe which is expected to call here on Saturday March 11, 2017 with more than 400 passengers
On Wednesday February 15, 2017 the island welcomed two cruise vessels – the Star Legend with 196 passengers and Saga Pearl II with 406 passengers. The Tourism Division arranged for steel pan music and other musical entertainment to welcome our guests. Additionally, several tents were pitched which housed a number of souvenir vendors who displayed and sold their items to the visitors. More than half of the passengers on the Saga Pearl II vessel went on packaged tours which were arranged by Ms. Rhonda Boatswain of RTT Travel and Tours. A large number of visitors from the ship also visited the nearby bars and restaurants and the beach, while others went on individual tours. Similarly, about 30 percent of visitors from the Star Legend vessel went on packaged Tours arranged by Roselyn Cassell-Sealy of Travel World Ltd., while others went on individual tours or patronized the nearby bars and restaurants.
It is anticipated that with the number of cruise vessels scheduled to visit our shores this year, cruise arrivals to the island will increase this year, as compared to last year.
Montserrat continues to welcome small to medium-sized vessels and remains on the Star Legend itinerary for 2018.
