TORONTO, Ont. — With increasing environmental awareness and ever-improving support infrastructure, interest in electric vehicles in Canada is growing at an ever expanding pace.

For the past three years, the Canadian International AutoShow has offered EV Test Drives during the 10-day run of the show, and for the 2020 AutoShow this popular feature has been expanded again.

When the Show opens February 14th, people interested in trying out an electric car will have 24 vehicles from which to test on Toronto’s streets, an increase of 33 per cent over last year. What’s more, nearly four in 10 AutoShow Early-Bird ticket buyers have indicated that exploring EVs is their primary reason for attending the show.

“The Canadian International AutoShow is the best place to see all of your electric vehicle options in one place,” says Jason Campbell, General Manager of the AutoShow. “Every year, the number of electric and hybrid options available to consumers grows significantly, and our expanded association with Plug’n Drive who will be managing our on-site test program will help more people than ever get educated and experienced in the benefits of this new technology.”

There have been rapid developments in the electric vehicle sector over the past year, and they are being recognized by industry observers:

  • At the 2019 Canadian International AutoShow, the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE was named Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada, the first electric vehicle to ever take home one of AJAC’s top awards.

  • Porsche won an AJAC Green Innovation Award for developing quick charging technology that can give a vehicle battery 100 kilometres of charge in just five minutes.

  • There were some 40 all-electric and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) on display at the 2019 Canadian International AutoShow. Expect that number to nearly double for 2020.

“We are pleased to once again be partnering with Canadian International Autoshow to help consumers learn about the environmental and economic benefits of driving electric and to provide a fantastic opportunity to test drive the growing line up of latest makes and models of electric vehicles,” says Cara Clairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Plug'n Drive.
