NEW YORK, NY – August 10, 2015 –The refined rhum flavors of Martinique are set to take New York by storm next week during the first-ever Martinique Rhum Festival New York. A cocktail reception being held as part of Harlem Week 2015, the festival will feature 10 celebrated Martinican rhums, each of them carrying the celebrated Appellation d'OrigineContrôlée (AOC) designation unique in the spirits world to the rhums of Martinique.

The event, which is being organized by the Martinique Regional Council, the Association of Martinique Rhum Distilleries (CODERUM), and the Martinique Promotion Bureau, will be held at Chéri Harlem Restaurant beginning at 6:00pm.

A raffle will also be held as part of the festivities with a grand prize of two round-trip tickets to Martinique aboard Norwegian Air Shuttle awarded to one lucky guest.

“The bright lights and big stage of New York, and in particular the fabled hotbed of African American artistic excellence that is Harlem, are a perfect match for our legendary rhums,” said Muriel Wiltord, director Americas of the Martinique Promotion Bureau. “We look forward to turning New Yorkers on to our unique rhums, and in the process, further validating Martinique’s status as the rum capital of the world.”

Whereas 97% of the rum produced today stems from sugar derivatives like molasses, Martinique rhums are distilled directly from fresh pressed sugarcane. This unique rhum agricole production method yields spirits of greater depth and character with closer associations to fine cognacs than typical molasses-based rums.
