Former House of Parliament in Plymouth, Montserrat

The Programme "From The Speaker's Chair' returned to ZJB Radio's airwaves on Tuesday, July 2nd, for another 6 week run.

Last evening, MNI Media's Editor, Jeevan A Robinson, spoke with The Honourable Speaker of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly, Shirley Osborne, looking at the topic "Is The Montserrat Legislative Assembly a truly functioning body without a Parliamentary Building?

Hon Osborne provided much insight into why a Parliamentary Building is significant, both for the functions of Governance and the overall Legislative processes on the island, but also too as a source of National Pride and symbolism of our advancement as a people. The lack of supportive structures for Legislators on Montserrat that a dedicated Legislative Assembly building would provide, serves as an impediment in the ability of Legislators to do their work effectively.

Recently, an observation and research mission was undertaken to Grenada where they have recently opened their new Parliament building. On this trip were both Hon Speaker Osborne, Clerk of the Assembly Mrs Judith Baker, and also International Project Manager Mr Owen Lewis. Mr Lewis is  lending his expertise to the Montserrat Legislative Assembly free of cost towards putting all the elements together for the eventual realisation of a Parliament Building on the island.
