My countrymen, supporters, friends and acquaintances.
I am sure that almost all of you are aware of my recent demotion within the government of our shared land, Montserrat. I do not want to make a big issue of this, political jobs come and go, politicians come and go. What I do want to do is to thank the many of you who have spoken up in my support and sent me messages of encouragement. I am humbled by your belief in me and in the values that I have tried to deliver over the last 3 years. I hope that I have grown and matured as an officer of your trust over these years and I aim to continue to do so, either in high office or as a backbencher.
I stand firm in my support of the ideals and messages that we (PDM) as a party presented to you at the last election. I, however, recognise that we have not been effective in delivering on the promises we made to you. There is much that I want to achieve that is not yet even off the drawing board. Each and every one of you, regardless of political or personal affiliation, deserves an explanation of why we have not delivered on those promises and a road map showing how delivery can be implemented over the remainder of this government. To fail to do this will be to fail you all. The essential farmers, the technicians, the construction workers, the labourers, the fishers and the entrepreneurs all need the stability of knowing how we intend to move forward. How we will deal with the Department for International Development (DfID)? How we can encourage inward investment? How we can practically build a safe and resilient Montserrat that lifts us all?
For the while, I shall be quietly tending my garden, but please rest assured that my heart and my mind will continue to seek ways in which we can bring the case for the betterment of Montserrat and the other Overseas Territories to the front of the agenda.
Montserratians one and all, we will reach our goals.Thank you for Listening to me.
