Leader of the Opposition on Montserrat, Hon Paul Lewis and Commissions Analyst, Mrs Adina Lee are both representing Montserrat at the Regional Caribbean Public Accounts Committees and Trade Scrutiny Workshop being held in Trinidad & Tobago, starting February 27 - 29, 2024.

The workshop is being conducted at the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain, in partnership with CPA UK. The focus of this workshop will be to look at the work of Public Accounts Committees and parliamentary trade scrutiny. 

On day one of the workshop, Hon Lewis will deliver a presentation focused on using Parliamentary resources effectively to prepare and conduct inquiries. Whilst on day 3, Mrs  Adina Lee will give her presentation on exploring key tools and avenues to prepare effectively for inquiries -  looking at evidence gathering, stakeholder engagement, and communication strategies. 

This workshop being held in Trinidad & Tobago brings together committee Chairs, Members and Clerks to facilitate peer-to-peer discussions on how to enhance effective scrutiny of government spending and trade policies. It also aims to discuss the challenges to parliamentary oversight and seek to come up with solutions and techniques for effective committee inquiries. Participants will also have the opportunity to strengthen their networks and build their contacts in the areas of public financial scrutiny and trade - both in the UK and the Caribbean.

Other participating speakers at the workshop include Dame Meg Hillier, MP and Chair of The Public Accounts Committee, UK Parliament. In attendance also are several members of the UK Parliament and House of Lords, along with Regional Parliamentarians.
