MNI Media has just received news that on International Women's Day (IWD) 2019, the Hon. Shirley Osborne, Speaker of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly (MLA) will deliver the keynote address at the official IWD celebration event in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI).

Speaker Osborne has been invited by the TCI Branch of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians and the Department of Culture to spend the day with women parliamentarians, high school and college age young women, business women and women from all sectors of the TCI community, and speak with them on the topic "Strength in Unity" Building and Empowering Women to Succeed.

Speaking about the invitation Speaker Osborne stated; "I feel very honoured to have been issued this invitation."

She further commented: "I am delighted that Montserrat once again gets the opportunity to be of service to the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands and I welcome this new occasion to work on strengthening existing personal relationships with friends in TCI and the more formal one between our two parliaments and peoples."

In addition to delivering her keynote address and attendance at IWD activities, Speaker Osborne will meet with Premier Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson, one of only two woman heads of Government in the Caribbean, Opposition Leader, the Hon. Washington Misick and the Speaker of the TCI Legislative Assembly, Hon. Dwayne Taylor.

Miss Osborne said; "These are significant relationships for us, both as Caribbean neighbours and again as United Kingdom Overseas Territories. It is important and helpful for both Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands, perhaps now more than ever, that we reinforce our bonds of cooperation and mutual support in light of the challenges currently facing us, and it is often the women who are the most consistent upholders of relationships. The choice of topic they've given me is very timely and perfectly apt."
