What's wrong with this picture?

Israel plans to pay thousands of illegal African migrants living there to leave.

The plan which has just been announced this week by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, is for his government to pay African migrants who crossed over into Israel illegally, a sum of $3,500, in addition to a free airline ticket to return home to their countries or either to a “third country”. The third countries being considered are both Rwanda and Uganda.

The migrants have up until the end of March, 2018, to take advantage of this offer or else they have been threatened with jail if they are caught after this time.

One official said: “Beyond the end of March, those who leave voluntarily will receive a significantly smaller payment that will shrink even more with time, and enforcement measures will begin. ”

Is the Israeli government mirroring the Donald Trump Administration, and being even more draconian in their immigration policy towards illegal immigrants?

Many of these immigrants have fled persecution and hardship in their countries, and have crossed over into Israel from mainly Eritrea and Sudan. However Israel treats them mainly as economic migrants.

What is even more troubling with this development is the view expressed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu where he stated "the migrants’ presence creates a threat to Israel’s social fabric and Jewish character. "

Is Bibi saying that non-Jewish persons are not allowed asylum in Israel by these remarks? His statements have lacked any mark of compassion towards what these African migrants might have been fleeing from. A further Israeli government minister has called the migrants “a cancer”.

In actually when examining the data, it shows that Israel has granted asylum to less than 1% of those who have applied, and they also have a major backlog of applicants waiting to be looked at.

In 2013 Israel completed a barrier along its border with Egypt with the purpose of cutting off the flow of what they term to be “illegal infiltrators” from Africa; this came after thousands had crossed over the dessert into Israel.

Within Israel there are just around 38,000 migrants living illegally. There are reportedly 1,420 being held in two detention centers in the country.

According to Prime Minister Netenyahu; “We have expelled about 20,000 and now the mission is to get the rest out."
