“I’ve been thinking and talking about it for a while, and decided it was time to actually do!”, says conceptualizer and host of the first Actors’ Flex, Fabian M. Thomas, Executive Director of Sankofa Arts & Facilitation.
The one-day expo/boot camp will take place on Saturday, August 31 at the National Volunteer Centre, 2D Camp Road from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Actors’ Flex will offer a workshop on acting for film with Film Directors Kurt Wright and Gabrielle Blackwood, a session with actresses and talent scouts Deanne Allgrove & Noelle Kerr on tips for actors to increase knowledge, improve professionalism and get cast, a life/career coaching session with Thomas and the review of and feedback on portfolios, resumes and headshots.
The day will end with a panel discussion with actors who have been cast in local and international films moderated by playwright/director/producer/actress Dahlia Harris. Participation in all activities will cost an affordable fee, with the exception of the panel which is free of cost.
Thomas expressed gratitude to his partners in putting on this initiative, the Jamaica Film and Television Association (JAFTA) and the Grace Kennedy Foundation. He plans for this to be the first in series of capacity-building activities targeting performers and others in the creative industries.
As a result of increasing responses and queries about Actors’ Flex, Thomas recommends that those interested register and pay promptly to secure their spaces. Registration may be done via the Actors’ Flex event on Facebook or by e-mailing Thomas at firstname.lastname@example.org.
