JN Money Services Limited (JNMS), a subsidiary of Jamaica National Building Society, continues its global expansion with the addition of a second branch under its international trading brand, JN Money Transfer, to its Canadian operations. This is in response to increased demands from Jamaicans in that country and plans for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence in 2012.

The Morningside Avenue Branch, in Scarborough, Ontario brings JN Money Transfer's full range of services to residents in Markham, Scarborough, Ajax, Pickering, Oshawa and surrounding areas, where many persons from Jamaica and other Caribbean nations reside. According to the 2006 census, some 85 percent of Canadians with Jamaican linkages reside in Ontario.

"The branch at this new location positions us to strengthen our operations in Canada and improve the delivery and efficiency of our services, particularly at a time when more Canadian Jamaicans and Caribbean entrepreneurs are being encouraged to invest and do business in Jamaica," said Leesa Kow, General Manager of JNMS.

Her comments were poised against recent statements by Ambassador Sheila Sealy Monteith, Jamaican High Commissioner to Canada, who extended an invitation to members of the Jamaican Diaspora in October to participate in the Prime Minister's Investment Forum. The event is to be held in Jamaica in December 2012 following the Grand Jamaica Homecoming being planned by Canadian Jamaicans to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the country's independence next year.

"This new facility will create additional channels and opportunities for our families and friends in Canada, who continue to show great interest in Jamaica, to improve their contributions as the country marks a major milestone in its development, as a nation," added Ms. Kow.

At the new Scarborough, Ontario facility, persons may complete a range of business transactions in Jamaica such as to send and receive money transfers; make bill payments to companies in Jamaica; purchase and send mobile phone credit and transfer funds to accounts with financial institutions in Jamaica.

"JN Money Transfer maintains a solid presence across major Canadian cities," Ms. Kow said, pointing to its other branch at Eglinton West in Toronto; as well as the JN Money Transfer network of some 30 Agents across Ontario, Alberta and Quebec.

JN Money Transfer recently opened two branches in New York, USA; and maintains a solid network of branches and Agents in several countries. These branches and Agents are located in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ghana and Jamaica and recently, the Bahamas.

"We are conscious of the growing need for increased services among our active clients in the Diaspora, and there are indications that this growth could peak during celebrations of our 50th year of Independence; and as Jamaicans around the world poise themselves for golden performances from our athletes at the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London 2012," Ms. Kow said.

The General Manager noted that there are grand opportunities that can emerge for Jamaica from these celebrations; and our Canadian clients and JN Money Transfer want to be prepared to benefit from these opportunities as they arise."
