A new and innovative company has
opened on the island of Montserrat, Emerald Solar and Wind Ltd (ESWL).
ESWL was
conceptualized to provide price conscious options to residents of Montserrat in
the areas of biodegradable/compostable food containers, alternative energy
options and energy efficient resources. We seek to change the way everyone
envisions “Sustainable Living” through educational outreach, services and
products. This is a home grown company seeking to mitigate the impact of
climate change and reduce our own impact.
The company officially launched at the 5th Meeting of OECS Ministers for
Environmental Sustainability on July 9th 2018 at the
Montserrat Cultural Center. The display included information about the
company, services and resources available.
The company is currently focused on
establishing Phase I- Biodegradable/Compostable food containers. The Chief
Operation Officer, Lyston Skerritt will also deliver the keynote address at the
opening of the Expo.
Montserrat has several endemic species that are negatively affected by trash in both the oceanic and forestry areas. With a small population it is very possible to become a zero waste community with intentional and timely intervention. The Caribbean is disproportionately affected by climate change and the impacts of developed countries waste. As good stewards of the environment our ultimate objective should be to reduce the carbon footprint of ourselves, families and the island resulting in net positive impact on the environment.
Vision
“To create a sustainable society through community education, law reform, and cultural change.”
