As the People's Democratic Movement (PDM) focuses on their plans and programs to improve lives here on Montserrat, one of their areas of focus will be towards bringing a Medical School back to Montserrat.
According to PDM Leader, and future Premier Hon Paul Lewis, his PDM Administration will be in active pursuit to bring back a Medical School to Montserrat.
Health Minister, Hon Delmaude Ryan confirmed these plans in a presentation recently, where she stated that two medical schools are already seeking accommodation to set up here on Montserrat. These schools are linked to Universities in North America.
Monies are expected to come into the Monserrat economy by them setting up a property to host their classes, and also by way of rental accommodation for their Professors and also students. Other economic spill-offs will be derived from the students being based here on Montserrat.
When speaking about the "True Pathway to Prosperity and Sustainability", the PDM mentioned that; "Having a medical school here is a rapid way to increase our population numbers, and help push forward our island’s economic activity via direct investment, and foreign capital coming in and turning over within our economy."
Further mention was made that; "Montserrat will see benefits in job creation in areas such as rental accommodation, job creation for our IT Engineers, Security persons, our respected cleaners, building and maintenance service providers, office attendants, accountants and a whole range of other services both directly and indirectly linked to any medical school that will be located here.
