Message from the Premier of the British Virgin Islands, Hon Orlando Smith, whose islands recently were heavily impacted by Hurricane Irma, now they too will feel the effects of Hurricane Maria as it heads towards the U.S and British Virgin Islands.

Premier Smith stated:

"Good morning BVI. I hope that we are all as prepared as we can be, wherever we are, for Hurricane Maria. I know that we are a praying people and we will continue to intercede for our Territory, and for our Caribbean brothers and sisters in Dominica who have been affected, as well as the other islands who are in Maria's path.

I remind everyone of the curfew that is in effect and ask that you respect it so that our essential teams can do as much as possible to minimize any flood impacts of Maria. #BVIStrong"

The 8:00AM Update from the National Hurricane Center in Miami shows a Hurricane Warning in effect for the BVI and the USVI. Maria is currently packing winds as a Category 5 storm of 160MPH or 260KM/H. According to the NHC; "On the forecast track, the eye of Maria will move over the northeastern Caribbean Sea today, and approach the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico tonight and Wednesday."
