Montserrat's Labour Commissioner Rudolph Christopher at Eleventh ILO Subregional Meeting in Barbados

Montserrat's Labour Commissioner, Rudolph Christopher

Montserrat's Labour Commissioner, Rudolph Christopher, is amongst several Labour Commissioners and Ministers of Labour currently attending the Eleventh ILO Subregional meeting of Ministers of Labour of the English and Dutch speaking Caribbean being held in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, The Bahamas, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, and host country Barbados are attending the meeting hosted under the theme "Shaping a Brighter Future of Work for the Caribbean."

Over the next two days, the Labour delegates will assess the relevance of the report “Work for a brighter future” of the Global Commission on the Future of Work. They will evaluate the framework it offers for shaping a better future for the Caribbean.

This will include a discussion on what a ‘human-centred agenda’ means for the Caribbean region.

The Labour policy makers, over the next two days, will have the opportunity to hear from several specialists who will make presentations on the digital economy, the care economy and green/blue economy. They will then have the task of coming up with new approaches for the Caribbean to transition into these new areas as potential avenues for job creation.

Minister of Labour on Montserrat, The Honourable Paul Lewis, when contacted told DS Media that due to budget constraints he is unable to attend the meeting.

Montserrat is a member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) through the UK Government, but works with the international labour body in developing policy and programmes for the strengthening of Labour relations on the island.
