Montserrat's MCWEL Hosts The Launch of CARICOM Energy Month 2018 at the Cultural Centre

The launch event activities for CARICOM Energy Month will conclude in the evening with an event on the grounds of the Montserrat Cultural Centre, from 7:30pm - 11:00 pm.

The opening was followed by a panel discussion where both students, civil society, private sector and energy professionals

On Friday, November 2nd, 2018, Montserrat played host to the launch of CARICOM Energy Month (CEM) at the Montserrat Cultural Centre (MCC) under the theme: ‘‘Clean Energy, Good Governance & Regulation: Generating Growth and Resilience.’’

CARICOM Energy Month is now in its third year. The launch on Montserrat is being facilitated by the Ministry of Communications, Works, Energy and Labour.

The launch of CARICOM Energy Month features two segments. Firstly, the opening ceremony, which took place at 9:00AM, featured opening remarks from Government Officials to include The Premier, Honourable Donaldson Romeo, Honourable Paul J. Lewis, Minister responsible for Energy on Montserrat, Local DFID Resident Representative, and also remarks from a visiting speaker from the Caribbean Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).

In addition, speeches were also delivered by two Youth Speakers: Youth Advocate Mr. Ashneil Jeffers, and Ms Keyola Greene, CARICOM Youth Ambassador for Montserrat. 

 

The opening was followed by a panel discussion where both students, civil society, private sector and energy professionals, together with Senior Government officials and policy-makers shared ideas on the current energy landscape within the CARICOM Region and also explored opportunities to support sustainable energy development. Topics that formed part of the discussion at the panel discussion included: Electric Mobility Vehicle, Solar Energy & Geothermal Energy.

The launch activities for CARICOM Energy Month will conclude in the evening with an event on the grounds of the Montserrat Cultural Centre, from 7:30pm - 11:00 pm. 

Several regional activities have been planned for CARICOME Energy Month including: An Artist competition for youths, a regional Energy Kilo Walk, a Youth Essay Competition, an Energy Personality award, and an award that will recognize the contributions made by an individual to the sustainable energy development of the Region.
