New York, NY - Today, the Senate begins confirmation hearings on Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court of the United States. In response, MPower Change Actionthe largest Muslim-led social and racial justice organization in the U.S., released the following statement:

“The Supreme Court holds immense power as the highest court in the United States with its decisions weaving the very fabric of our country -- for better or for worse. With a dangerously right-wing judge like Brett Kavanaugh, the same court that upheld Trump’s racist Muslim ban will continue to give the green light to an administration that has made xenophobia, racism, and anti-Muslim bigotry its official policy. Now more than ever, we must hold our senators accountable for their votes -- at the end of the day, a vote for Kavanaugh is a vote against marginalized people across the country.

“Our government is supposed to have checks and balances that uphold democracy and reject white supremacy -- yet Trump consistently endorses dangerous policies that harm, dehumanize, and exclude people of color. Every day that Congress fails to take action, policies like the Muslim Ban will continue to tear families apart, legalize discrimination against already impacted groups, and even deprive people of lifesaving medical treatment.”
