Washington, DC, July 20, 2015 – Whether it's a nation, a person or a relationship, being labeled as "broken" can become a death stroke -- or the spark that lights a passion to prevail over every obstacle. For John C. Davies, a deeply dysfunctional family triggered a long chain of events including adultery, betrayal, neglect, homelessness, conspiracies, even murder, yet he emerges triumphant. Dysfunctional One (Page Publishing), is his inspirational memoir.

"I was branded the black sheep in the family, doomed and left to ruin – called a loser many times, a waste, and in some cases made a scapegoat," he says. "Like a plant thriving in sandy soil, I developed a strong sense of purpose, patience and perseverance." Dysfunctional One describes Davies' remarkable struggle to survive three of Africa's most gruesome wars, evacuate his family to safety multiple times from desperate violence, and begin life again as a free citizen of the USA.

Now, he is CEO of Global Alliance Solution, LLC on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. The company manages corporate expansion and international strategies as well as overseeing other client services such as management accounting, corporate and individual taxes and strategic global staffing. With an MBA from Colorado Technical University, Davies is currently working on a PhD. While living in Senegal as refugee, he founded the Bi-Lingual Refugee School of Dakar and wrote an education program to transition English-speaking refugee children/students from an English curriculum to a French curriculum. Liberia's National Chess Champion for ten years, Davies is also a rated Grand Master.

In 2000, living as a refugee in Dakar, he was nominated by the Federation for World Peace to represent African refugees at the United Nations Millennium Conference in New York. Now he lives in the United States with his wife of 30 years and their ten children. He is writing two other books: one entitled Chess Kids' Tutorial and the second part of Dysfunctional One.
