LIMA, Peru, 2017. – Renowned Peruvian chefs Mitsuharu Tsumura, Virgilio Martinez and Gaston Acurio, have banded together in the production of ‘Off the Table’, a series that will showcase Peru’s fusion of cultures, ingredients and culinary techniques. The ‘Off the Table’ series is a project by NewWorlder.com, a space that will consolidate the positioning of Peru as a world gastronomic destination.

The first video of the series, launched today, shows Mitsuharu Tsumura, owner of Maido and brand ambassador for Peru, heading to sea off the Peruvian coastline to highlight the region’s abundance of seafood, as well as the respect we must have for the work of men who fish in the area. In this episode, Tsumura, who emphasises Maido's unwavering relationship with the ocean through its dishes, will also address the importance of caring for and valuing this enormous ecosystem.

On April 6th, Virgilio Martinez who is also brand ambassador for Peru and owner of Central, will invite the public to accompany him in the preparation of the ‘millenary pachamanca’, one of Peru’s most traditional dishes.

Finally on May 4th, Gaston Acurio will highlight the talent and creativity of Peruvians through his work with the Pachacutec Foundation and will also talk about the importance of cooking to achieve equal opportunities in the country.

'Off The Table' is a project by NewWorlder.com that explains the gastronomy and local culture of the countries they visit through videos of approximately five minutes. The project was created with the purpose of telling the stories happening behind the kitchen counter in Latin America. The project was supported by PROMPERÚ, the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism and hosted by Jim Kane, founder of Culture Xplorers, a tour operator that creates sustainable and culturally immersive journeys around the world.

The founders of the site, Nicholas Gill and Marie Elena Martinez, are renowned travel and gastronomy writers who have collaborated with major international media such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Guardian, Saveur, Bon Appetit, Fool, Huffington Post, Condé Nast Traveler, Newsday, Boston Globe and the Miami Herald, among others.

Nicholas Gill is co-author of the book 'Central' by Virgilio Martinez and has written extensively on Peru. Gill has also appeared in 'Chef's Table', the Netflix series. Without a doubt, Peru's participation in the 'Off The Table' project is an important tool that will allow Peru to strengthen the international exhibition of the country's image in the gastronomic sector.
