On December 6, runners from around the world will meet in Negril for the Reggae Marathon, an annual race that offers a true "sense of place" to runners. Reggae beats, a scenic route along Negril's famed Seven Mile Beach, a "Rasta Pasta" party and good vibes make for a truly Jamaican experience for both amateur and expert athletes.

The route is a certified, mostly flat, looped course with 10k, half or full marathon options. Reggae music highlights each mile marker, with either a band playing or pulsating music from loud speakers encouraging participants to keep the pace. Finishers are rewarded a medal, fresh coconut water in the shell and a Red Stripe, after which they have the opportunity for a refreshing dip in the Caribbean Sea. Another race highlight is the "World's Best Pasta Party" the night before the race, where participants can carb-load and meet their fellow participants.

Now in its 14th year, the run accepts 3,000 participants, and is a popular annual event for Canadian visitors. Last year, 147 Canadians participated in the race, both solo and as part of fundraising teams.

The run begins at Negril's Long Bay Beach Park at 5:15am on Saturday, December 6, and registration costs are: $100 for the marathon, $95 for the half marathon and $70 for the 10k run.

"The Reggae Marathon is a significant annual event in Jamaica and is well attended by Canadian visitors," said Paul Pennicook, Director of Tourism. "The runners not only experience the scenic coastal view, but the Jamaican vibe along the race route is like none other."

Divine Tours is one of Reggae Marathon's partner tour operators and offers special accommodation rates at 18 Negril hotels and resorts, including the marathon's host hotel, Couples Swept Away. All-inclusive rates through Divine Tours are available starting from just $28 (USD) per person, per night (based on double occupancy). To obtain these special rates, all reservations must be made through Divine Tours.
