TORONTO, ON (November 10, 2016) – Kilted bagpipers will span the length of Toronto’s iconic Yonge Street in Downtown Yonge on November 11, 2016 to mark this year’s Remembrance Day.

“Many Canadians throughout history have given so much to protect our freedom and way of life,” says Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (DYBIA) Executive Director Mark Garner. “Remembrance Day is a way for our community to come together, take a minute and reflect on the sacrifices made for our country.”

Bag pipers will be stationed at nine intersections along Yonge Street.

After observing two minutes of silence at 11a.m., the pipers will play The Lament, a haunting piece written as an homage to those who died in battle.

This year, DYBIA is pleased to announce that outdoor media companies – and DYBIA members – Clear Channel Canada and Cieslok Media will join the ceremony this year.

To pay tribute to Canada’s war heroes, both companies will display the image of a red poppy, the international emblem of remembrance, on their digital boards surrounding Yonge Dundas Square during the one minute of silence.

The bagpipers will take up their positions on Yonge Street at:

· Richmond Street
· Shuter Street
· Dundas Street
· Gould Street
· Elm Street
· Gerrard Street
· College Street
· Wood Street
· Grosvenor Street / Alexander Street

“We invite shoppers, visitors, residents and businesses on Yonge Street to join us at one of these locations and share that moment of reflection with us,” adds Garner.
