Russian President Vladimir Putin Is The Real Winner In The Ongoing Political Drama Unfolding in the United States

Russian President Vladimir Putin

President Donald Trump never thought the ride would have gotten this bumpy so early into the journey.

In a speech on Wednesday, May 17, to the U.S Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut, Trump stated; “Look at the way I’ve been treated lately, especially by the media," he moaned. “No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly.”

Great surety? Trump's idea of facts, surety and truth, many have come to realise, are blurred within his own mind ever since he made his charge on the U.S election campaign trail leading up to him becoming President.

Kellyanne Conway, Steve Bannon and company, looked to hijack the White House, and by extension people's minds by introducing officially the ideology of "Alternative Facts." This was to be a new political status quo that the new President Trump and his regime hoped would have taken sway. Perhaps in some quarters within middle America, where the media is looked upon by some as being the enemy, the concept of Alternative Facts and fake news being propagated by centuries old media houses, did in fact take root. However, not everyone fell for the bait.

But what did Trump expect? He has pilloried the media repeatedly; insulted the intelligence community; acted in a manner that looked to break the U.S Constitution by looking to assume absolute power.

The Republicans, while President Obama was in power, were sure to let Obama know that the President of the United States does not have absolute power. Even Trump himself built his political entry on reminding Obama time and again that the system of government in the United States has checks and balances built in. So now those institutions meant to keep the Presidency honest are dong their jobs, Trump is lost in a wave of his own making, with his complaints about unfair treatment towards him.

Trump, and many within his close circle are probably wondering where did it all go wrong? Some of the accusations levelled against Trump, Flynn, Sessions, and Pence wreaks of near treasonous actions against the Republic - if in fact there is proven to have been collusion with the Russians to rig the U.S elections in Trump's favour.

In the midst of all the ensuing chaos however, Putin's is looking very much assured and in control.

How so?

The Cold War that America fought against and thought they had won, has never been truly over between the two countries.

Former President Reagan at the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin, Germany, on June 12, 1987, demanded of Former Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev; "Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall."

Reagan was making on open call from not just America, but from the West. Reagan was pushing for the ideals of Perestroika that included economic restructuring, loosening of absolute communist power and control; and more open government to take further root across the former Union of Soviet Socialists Republic (USSR)  - to include also East and West Germany. Gorbachev was willing, and had shown some commitment, but he met with stiff resistance from within his own camp. The Berlin Wall did however fall on November 9, 1989.

But what of Perestroika? Did it sweep across the plains, and herald a new day for Russia? No it did not.

Boris Yeltskin, who took over the Russian Presidency after the USSR fell, aimed to continue its ideals, but Perestroika did not even last into the late 90s.

Today, the Russians are seeking payback, as they have wanted for some time now. None more symbolises that ingrained distrust for America than the man who sits in the Kremlin -  President Vladimir Putin.

As former USSR Leader Mikhail Gorbachev said in a recent interview; “The language of politicians and the top-level military personnel is becoming increasingly militant. ” These comments Gorbachev made to Germany’s Bild newspaper.

He went on to say; “The relationship between the big powers continues to worsen. This creates the impression that the world is preparing for a war. So all the indications of a Cold War are there.”

What is happening in the USA right now is deeply rooted in the 75 plus years of the Cold War that existed between the USA & USSR.

Putin came to power in Russia to make a point to the West and to America.  When he annexed Crimea from Ukraine it was a dare to the West. The West flinched.

Well, what else would the West have done? Except for declaring war against Russia. That would have been a tragic error that would have plunged the world and Western economies into chaos. The fragile economic recovery that is still struggling to cement itself would not have survived.

Now Putin has gone deep into the heart of the American Republic, and has royally screwed the system; casting doubt on the system's legitimacy that idea of free and fair elections.

He is now watching as the powerful men and women within America - both within the political system and the media - fight amongst themselves.

Even today he weighed in on the ongoing political heatwave in the U.S, and stated that he would be happy to provide the U.S Congress with a transcript of Foreign Minister Lavrov's conversation with President Trump, just recently held. The very same meeting in which Trump is accused to have given classified information to the Russians.

Putin knows within himself that his offer is not enough to get Trump off the hook. He is playing with them openly, and for all the world to witness.

Putin is loving the drama and chaos that is unfolding in the United States. As far as he is concerned, he has control.
