Spoken Word: Fly By

There in the far distance a mushroom cloud rising from a city. Eruption of a volcano was the assumption what else could it be

From his story he was more than four score
Antiqued body queried luck, good genes or doctors
Life can lead us down many a speeding highway
The journey - some tense exits many, yet we stay
Not feeble, his mind was intact and he was reminiscing
Elderly preserved and he was in the gym exercising
Like being thirsty watching the ripples of a reservoir
We speed, yet safety is an act through faith assured

He was an engineer flying back to base on a B24 from Kyoto
War time engagement work, pray, party, rest, always on the go
Activate that unnerving feeling of being sinful in a church
An unwilling participant in an orgy but can't resist the urge
There in the far distance a mushroom cloud rising from a city
Eruption of a volcano was the assumption what else could it be
Curiosity was in a haste, anxiety felt fully parked on the freeway
Enduring an unwanted feeling of freezing on a sunny day

Twas like yesterday memories of that dust cloud still hums
When he landed the word was rampant of the bombs
Everyone was talking about bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki
While he wanted to tell them of the volcanic eruption he still sees
Danger had another name when necessity was around
The risen mushroom though distant was ominous and profound
He did a set of arms, clenched his teeth and said he had to go
Is war a blessing, a curse, or just an adjustment to rulers egos?
