Standing o'er your hospital bed this I see
A person who was once vibrant laden with energy
Laying silently sleeping with so many tubes attached
My mind wonders surely I reminisce as I watch
Doubting yet accepting time wondering how could this be
Knowing that someday some where this too can be me
Yet I digress for all the beeping sounds that surround
Take me to a place that is thankfully technologically sound

How can this stalwart lady be transferred to be this docile
One accepts failure sometimes but reality stays for a while
For time goes on age climbs muscles get weaker
Pain shows up the steps get shorter the back bends further
The doctor knows you more somehow you grow shorter
Your body mass deteriorate you held on longer still the senior
These tubes are delivering hope to have you for another day
Broken or mended I'll take you breath by breath here anyway

Family you cherished like the knowledgable diploma of your past
Grands, great-grand, great great grands, are your numbers that last
The tell tale of your years rest in the many lives you've touched
Though you lie here sleeping peacefully we love you oh so much
Thankfully we cherished your loving presence all through the years
Accepting your motherly love, guidance, discipline and fears
Every time you emphasize do it for heavens sake
Oops there you go stirring I guess you are awake
