Take a look yonder
Beyond that first hill
Left of the lablolly tree
Under that coconut tree
Is where I was born at four o'clock early morn

Yes inside a thatch roof house my grand mother and us lived
My seven year old brother had to run down Cain Ghaut
Over the hill, cross the road to find the mid wife
She come bringing a hurricane lamp and a flambeau
They came that early morning up the Ghaut panting
A pot of hot water was on the fire plenty of clean cloth
Warm water available in a big white basin
She arrived and ten minutes later I came out
Screaming like hell ten fingers ten toes writhing
Everybody laughed after they cut my navel string
I was comfortable inside and somebody aroused me

They wipe and wash my black ass and cuddle me up in a nice soft blanket.
No jumbie call me name but I come out and cried
What the hell was that for ? Today I cry nobody cares
If I need a soft blanket I have to get my own.
Today nobody will walk that far for me especially up a Ghaut in the dark
Let’s say if I get a call that time of the morning it better be a booty call
But I digress i think love for people, carrier and country go further
The trash house is gone not by hurricane but by a flambeau my brother knocked over
We were playing ‘hoop’ and he went to hide for cover
Nobody got hurt but everything burnt flat
Today I’m a pediatrician living in Canada vacationing in Montserrat
Yesterday was, today is, tomorrow I’ll be a king I wonder
Today I take a long thankful memorable look yonder
