Spoken Word; Unshackled

Hoods and burning crosses I've seen it all. Even a "nigga" hanging from a tree top. A sight that stays. It's brain toting luggage! It never leaves therein lies the problem

Spoken Word; Unshackled

Hoods and burning crosses I've seen it all. Even a "nigga" hanging from a tree top. A sight that stays. It's brain toting luggage! It never leaves therein lies the problem

He said In a deep southern drawl
As a nail against the Hammer
I've seen dad with a Bible in one hand and rope in the next
Hoods and burning crosses I've seen it all
Even a nigga hanging from a tree top
A sight that stays. It's brain toting luggage!
It never leaves therein lies the problem
That confederate flag wave also for white superiority
When questioned the reason behind lynching
Dad said 'it'll make you a man' strong!
Profound 'because your grand dad did it with me

Racing after his-story to erase history
This educational building block failed
Yesterday's expertise appeasing tomorrow's problem
First it is dehumanizing by attaching a name 'nigga'
Thereby a derogatory name saves the shame of a crime
This is not a confession but you are honest and open
Today the past is the ladder to tomorrow no need to tote it
Remembering the garbage deceit and lies but leave them
A ladder unto itself are steps walk wisely

The flag is a symbol but if it stands for prejudice it's a rag
If there's an afterlife will dad and grand-dad still be racist
Life of anger and hate is a contaminated garbage bag
By God will they face the men they hung and send ahead
Power by oppression of color race or religion is temporary
Today I weep for they ignore the contrast of death and life
You cannot remove hatred by removing a statue
Neither can history be reversed by a preachers bible
The color of shame is red white and blue check within
Erasing injustice is trying to cleanse a city dump with milk
With bias racist leaders cherry picking right from wrong
Massaging ass kissing prejudicial law breakers for a vote
A lack of tolerance
Blinded by the bloodless pleasure that peace offer
Then he wept
