What is freedom when we are not allowed to be free?
Are we truly free when we continue to be oppressed repeatedly?
When our individuality, our opinions and our right to oppose the mass
Lies and hypocrisy that greet us continually are berated daily?

Someone, somewhere out there calls themselves our leaders
Everyday jostling to have power over our reality.
It is like we live in this fantasy world, that some choose to call a democracy
So why then does it appear that there are efforts to curtail us
To stifle our progress on this dangerously fragile journey?

The democracy they spew now seems more like a charade.
And the freedom they cheer an erroneous aspiration.
They want all this control over our lives
Showing our youth all their blatant fantasy displayed as reality.
It is on the television where our children’s dreams now seem to be fostered
They use our people and our talents for their entertainment
Pushing us to aim for their versions of materialism and vanity.

But what about us as a people?
Have we joined the people gazing and the celebrity worshipping?
Are our ideals fixated looking at someone else to define our existence,
And the way we ought to be?
They cloud our minds with insecurities
Distracting us from the realities around us
Limiting our boundaries as they seek to encamp us.
