Washington, D.C. — As Steven Menashi begins his confirmation hearing today on his nomination to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Maggie Jo Buchanan, director of Legal Progress at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

Steven Menashi is one of the worst examples of President Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign to subvert America’s federal courts by packing them with far-right political activists committed to undermining the rights of our neighbors and loved ones. Notable for his radical hostility toward immigrants and women, Menashi’s agenda is, sadly, squarely in line with this administration’s extremist views.

His hateful actions while serving in Trump’s administration should disqualify him from the bench on their face, as a demonstration of his inability to uphold the Constitution. The Center for American Progress urges all members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee to vote against not only Menashi’s nomination but all efforts by the Trump administration to corrupt our courts by packing them with narrow-minded extremists.
