My brothers and sisters of Montserrat, we live in interesting times. There has been much change over the last week and with good reason.
Some people are looking to me to create further change to lead our nation out of the impasse our government finds itself in. I do not see the need for the constant rush to deny and exclude anyone. I agree that further change has to come, not because Claude Hogan will create it but because the people of Montserrat demand it. The status quo cannot remain.
Our government has taken some wrong turns over the last 4 years. From within government I tried to right some mistakes, but now as a lowly backbencher, it is not up to me to lead on the issues at hand; that is a job for our elected Premier. I advise him to be bold and put loyalty to country before any personal loyalty. If he cannot or will not do that, then it is for the people to speak either en masse or individually to their representatives and make clear the direction they wish their government to take.
I give you all, PDM, MCAP, non-aligned or independents my solemn word that I will support the people's will.
As a people, make your will clear. I have already demonstrated my loyalty to my party; now I will demonstrate my loyalty to my country.
