New York, NY - Today, Trump nominated federal appeals court Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. MPower Change Action Campaign Director Mohammad Khan, had this to say:

“Today’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court Justice is a continuation of Trump’s plan to pack the judiciary with extremist judges. A vote to confirm Kavanaugh is a vote to rubber-stamp Trump’s agenda. The rights of Muslims, women, people of color, and working people across the U.S. are at risk. Today’s nomination opens the door to continued government and court-sanctioned discrimination against ethnic groups and religious beliefs, as we saw with the recent Muslim Ban ruling.

“We know that, just like Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh will make decisions in lockstep with Trump’s anti-Muslim, anti-worker, and anti-civil rights agenda—regardless of whether they are consistent with rule of law, judicial precedent, or basic moral values. We also know that the right to live in peace and be treated justly no matter one’s race, ethnicity, or religion is inalienable, even if Trump and his Supreme Court picks say otherwise

“Anyone who believes in the importance of preserving these rights will do whatever they can to stop Brett Kavanaugh and Trump’s takeover of the Supreme Court. Our power to resist Trump’s White Nationalist agenda lies in our unity, our collective voice, and the power to organize millions across the country. We will continue mobilizing to defend our communities from immoral, bigoted policies, and pressure our elected officials to block Kavanaugh’s nomination.”
