UNESCO Launches Global ResiliArt Movement to Support Culture and the Arts During and After Pandemic

Paris, 14 April—On Wednesday 15 April, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay will launch a global online debate and movement labelled ResiliArt to boost the resilience of artists and cultural industries from the devastating economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown.

Taking place on World Art Day, the first ResiliArt debate (2 to 4 pm Central European Time), will bring together MsAzoulay, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, Ernesto Ottone R., electronic music pioneer and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Jean Michel Jarre (President of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, CISAC), writer Yasmina Khadra, Musician, documentary film director and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Deeyah Khan, Singer-songwriter, CISAC Vice-President and UNICEF International Ambassador Angélique Kidjo, andNina Obuljen-Kor≈æine, violinist and Minister of Culture of Croatia, along with Luis Puenzo, film director, screenwriter, producer and President of Argentina’s Film Institute, INCAA. 

The ResiliArt debate is designed to encourage cultural industry professionals and other stakeholders to engage in regional and thematic conversations and a social media campaign to help the culture sector weather the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financing of culture and artists.
