Attorneys representing incarcerated dancehall star Vybz Kartel have filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against recently retired Police Commissioner, Owen Ellington.

The amount of the lawsuit Kartel is filing against Ellington is not yet known but Kartel's lead attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson, told Jamaica's ZipFM, that the documents have now been signed by Kartel to proceed with suing Ellington.

In April this year, Police Commissioner Ellington stated in an interview with TVJ’s All Angles: "Vybz Kartel lead a gang that was responsible for well over a hundred murders. " Ellington said.

He went on to state; "We have been telling the country this for a very long time. And every time we move against this gang we were criticized, We were condemned and we were accused of being malicious."

Vybz Kartel is currently serving life for the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams.
