The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Medical Officer, Paediatrics within the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide paediatric and general medical services.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • To collaborate with the entire health care team to ensure the delivery of quality care for patients requiring paediatric services;

  • To conduct weekly outpatient clinics to assess and monitor all patients requiring this service;

  • To maintain adequate documentation of case management and patient contact and care;

  • To collaborate in the development of disease prevention and health promotion initiatives;

  • To diagnose, treat and manage the care of paediatric patients on an in-patient out-patient basis;

  • To visit the homes of paediatric patients in accordance with clinical guidelines;

  • To carry out perinatal auditing;

  • To monitor patients’ conditions and progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary;

  • To collaborate with the health care team on all clinical matters to ensure effective patient care;

  • To collaborate with the relevant persons to arrange the management and transfer of patients overseas for treatment as required;

  • To participate in the on-call roster at the Casualty Department as required;

CANDIDATES QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE PROFILE:

The applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor of Medicine Degree or equivalent from a recognized Medical University

  • Post graduate degree in Paediatric Medicine

  • Basic Life support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification

  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification would be an asset

  • Advanced Certificate or Diploma in Emergency Medicine would be an asset

  • Significant experience in acute medicine would be an asset

  • Excellent planning and organizing skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

Applicants should also be willing to keep abreast of developments in the field.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT

Appointment will be on a contractual basis for a period of two years, eligible to receive a gratuity of 12.5% of the basic salary upon successful completion of the contract.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE 

The total remuneration package for this post is negotiable.

SELECTION PROCESS

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in a selection process that involves attending one or more interviews and/or assessment centres.  These interviews are designed to assess the skills, competencies and attitudes of the applicant and may be conducted via SKYPE or in person.  The Interviews and/or Assessment Centres allow the Selection Panel to draw on more evidence about the applicants than can be derived from the written application.
