CathRon Products aim is to produce local craft and souvenir items as well as locally produced preserves, noni juice, bush rum and a liqueur made from the breadfruit which is grown throughout the island. When in abundance, the breadfruit practically floods the market and preservation has been investigated as to ways which the breadfruit can be utilized. The CathRon Breadfruit Liqueur is well on the way to becoming a worldwide fame product and many Montserratians and visitors are asking for it by name. It is presently sold at theCathRon outlet in Barzeys, local supermarkets, some restaurants and bars.
The founders of CathRon Products recognize that on the tourism market, there are very little to offer the potential visitor to the island and thus further venturing out in the souvenir related items which are made by the wife and husband duo. They have produced and designed a wide variety of items which include keyrings, fridge magnets, bottle openers, ornamental CDs, clocks, mouse pads along with their liqueurs and preserves which are all done in-house.
The advent of the CathRon Breadfruit Liqueur came about in 2005 when the Ministry of Agriculture launched a ‘Breadfruit Festival’ and participants were encouraged to partake on different ways to preserve the breadfruit. Catherine and Ronald Barzey took part and came up with the idea of making a liqueur from the breadfruit. CathRon Breadfruit Liqueur got first prize in the drink category. The liqueur was an instant hit and since then and has been selling quite well. It is presently packaged in a 375 ml flask glass bottle with slices of breadfruit included for flavor as well as decoration.
