The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) has unveiled the theme for the celebration of this year’s Tourism Week, which will take place from November 26th –  December 2nd, 2023.  Taking its cue from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the ATB is adopting the World Tourism Day theme, “Investing in People, Planet and Prosperity.”

“The prosperity of our island and our people is closely tied to the health and fortunes of our Tourism industry,” stated the Hon. Haydn Hughes, Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, Housing, Utilities and Tourism.  “We must invest in innovation and technology to release the massive potential for tourism to deliver opportunities for our people and build a resilient economy.  The global tourism industry is one of the world’s leading employers, and our objective is to generate inclusive prosperity in Anguilla around the pillars of innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Creating a sustainable infrastructure for our tourism industry is essential to securing the future of our industry over the long term,” declared the Hon. Quincia Gumbs-Marie, Minister of Sustainability, Innovation & the Environment. “Joining the Blue Belt Initiative was a commendable first step; however, accelerating the green transformation of our industry is an ongoing process.  We need to manage our marine and coastal resources and engage both our current stakeholders and new investors in a manner that will increase productivity, bring added value to our economy, and create new job opportunities, improving livelihoods for the next generation.”

According to Mrs. Stacey Liburd, Anguilla’s Director of Tourism, “Tourism is by far the most important contributor to Anguilla’s economy, and we must invest in our people by providing pathways and career opportunities to attract young people to the industry. Employment opportunities are not limited to the accommodations sector; affording access to academic training, vocational training and entrepreneurship programs is critical to developing and retaining a talented and broad-based labor force that will ensure the continued success of our industry.”

The ATB will be rolling out the full schedule of activities planned during Tourism Week 2023 over the coming weeks.  All are invited to participate in what promises to be a productive, enlightening, and enjoyable series of events.
