An interactive theatre experience that celebrates the Great White North and pokes fun at Canadian stereotypes will hit the stage in the nation’s capital for the summer.

The Oh Canada Eh? Dinner Show has been entertaining locals and visitors to Niagara Falls for 25 years. While the original Niagara production continues to celebrate Canada night after night, Canadiana Productions Inc. is excited to announce a brand-new home, located in the Nation’s Capital. The Ottawa production will be staged by family-run Totally Legit Productions and is set to begin performances just in time for the Canada Day weekend.

Featuring Canadian music from the post-World War II era to modern pop, Oh Canada Eh? uses audience interaction to tell a story about Canadian culture, explore the Canadian psyche and highlight the country’s unique sense of humour.

While based on the show staged in Niagara, the Ottawa production will have its own flair with new jokes, new choreography and more French content.

“The Niagara show has been a classic that has been doing great for 25 years,” says Jean-Francois Grenier from Totally Legit Productions “In Ottawa, it is a whole new cast, new choreography and new space which lends itself to a different experience and a different twist. The audience interaction really makes our show unique. With most productions, the actors never leave the stage, but in Oh Canada Eh? we are down in the audience all the time, which is really fun.”

Totally Legit Productions owners J.F, Meaghan Chapin and Michelle Chapin first met 11 years ago when J.F and Meaghan stepped onto the stage of the Oh Canada Eh? Dinner Show production in Niagara Falls. Meaghan was playing Rose-Marie in the flagship production and he was playing the French Trapper Pierre while a young Michelle watched adoringly from the audience.

The actors ultimately fell in love in real life, married and moved on from Niagara Falls, but they could never get their dinner theatre experience out of their veins.

So, they decided to join forces with Michelle and bring Oh Canada Eh? to Ottawa.

“It was an amazing experience in Niagara Falls working with such great people who are like our family,” says Meaghan. “We know this show like the back of our hands. We always thought one day we would go back and do it again, but to be able to open a new show in Ottawa is truly a dream come true.”

Just in time for the Canada Day weekend, Oh Canada Eh? opens June 28th at Clark Hall in the RA Centre on Riverside Drive and will run until September 14th.

“Oh Canada Eh? has been a part of our family for over a decade,” says Michelle. “I’m beyond proud and excited to be part of the next chapter in the show’s journey with my family - new and old - by my side.”
