The Montserrat Development Corporation is leading an ambitious economic regeneration programme for Montserrat, aiming to build a prosperous and self-sustaining economy. Crucial to this is the attraction of private sector investment. We are looking for an ambitious and experienced Director to drive our investment promotion campaign and to help create a thriving local business sector. The Director will play a central role in Montserrat's economic future, and the job is a unique opportunity for a creative and influential leader to make a major, lasting impact on the island's future.

Job Title: Director, Trade & Investment Promotion

Reporting to: Chief Executive, Montserrat Development Corporation (MDC)

Location: MDC Offices, Little Bay, Montserrat

Job Purpose:

To make a measurable impact on the Montserrat economy through attracting new private sector investment to Little Bay/Carr's Bay and other parts of the island; ensuring that potential investors receive advice and information in an efficient manner; providing local businesses with the support necessary to grow, primarily through exporting and import substitution; assisting in the development of improved tourism services and attractions; identifying and appraising new business opportunities.

Key Objectives:

1.To identify and approach investors in the key target sectors identified in Montserrat's Sustainable Growth Plan.

2.To create and continuously improve a suite of investment promotion material to assist in informing and attracting investors.

3.To ensure that the investment enquiries are provided with the information required to confirm and implement their investments.

4.To work with the Montserrat Tourist Board in improving tourism services and attractions.

5.To identify and support local businesses with export and import substitution potential.

6.To provide business development services accessible to all local enterprises.

7.To identify and appraise potential new business opportunities.

8.To lead and motivate the divisional team of permanent staff and TC support.

9.To ensure that own professional competences are up-to-date and fit for purpose.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

Education and qualifications:

Essential:

'Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline such as Business Management, Marketing, Accountancy, Banking or Economics.

Desirable:

'Post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.

Experience:

Essential:

'At least five years' experience in a management role in a business or economic development organisation.

'Experience in investment policy and promotion.

'Management of technical consultants.

'Working closely with government departments and agencies.

Desirable:

'Working in small states or islands.

'Experience of starting up and running a business, ideally with export revenues.

Knowledge:

Essential:

'Investment Promotion techniques.

'Business Development requirements.

'Export marketing.

'Management of a lending portfolio.

Desirable:

'Knowledge of the Montserrat market and business community.

'Financial management and control systems.

'Leadership: setting a vision and getting performance from people.

Skills:

Essential:

'Business Analysis.

'Willingness to take hands-on role. Make personal contact with businesses.

'Analytical and writing skills.

'Communication and interpersonal skills.

'Undertaking staff reviews and appraisals.

'Use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
