Dominica carnival, also known as Mas Domonik will be held on 7 and 8 March, 2011. The carnival is among the biggest carnivals and is celebrated with passion when the beautiful natural island of Dominica is transformed into a paradise. The Dominican Republic is situated in Caribbean region. The main features of the Dominica carnival are stunning spectacles along with exciting events and also the traditional culture. The carnival is a perfect way for connecting with the ancestors for the locals accompanied with dancing and also singing.
The carnival opens with a parade. Queen and princess contestants, popular bands, costumed revelers, the stilt walkers or moko jumbies, Calypsonians and cheerleaders along with other people parade in the streets. The colorful event is attended by a huge number of on-lookers. Some of the events are J'ouvert, calypso competitions, shows and street jump-ups.
