Gary Morton Receives The Prestigious Dr Martin Luther King Jr Service Award

Congratulations to Boston, USA resident, Gary Morton, who was recently awarded the prestigious Martin Luther King (MLK) Service Award from Bentley University. The award was presented to Morton at the 27th Annual Dr Martin Luther King Jr breakfast held on Tuesday, January 29th, in Boston.

As an alum and consistent volunteer to Bentley University, the presentation of the MLK Service Award to Gary is significant as it recognises Gary's hard work and his approach of giving back to the community. Such activities have made him stand out amongst his peers and also within the community in Boston.

For the past five years Gary has been serving as the Managing Director of the Boston Chapter of the Leaders of Tomorrow programme. This programme is important within the community as its focus is geared towards developing minority youths within Boston, setting them on a pathway towards attending University and gaining a tertiary level education.

Additionally, Gary was recently elected President of the Boston chapter of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA). The NBMBAA organization is one focused on developing and supporting individuals within corporations, colleges and the wider community.

Morton, who was born in the Caribbean island of Montserrat, tells MNI Alive that he was very surprised to have been chosen to receive the MLK Service Award. The Award was presented to Gary by Brandon Cooley, a member of the MBA Class of 2013.

The keynote address during the gathering was delivered by Neal A. Lester, a man known for his teaching and scholarship in African American literary and cultural studies
