Search for candidates to work at headquarters in Washington, DC or in country offices in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today opened the registration for itsYoung Professionals Program. The registration will close on March 1, 2012. Among therequirementsto participate are: to be up to 32 years old and to have at least two years of professional experience in one or more of the following fields: economic development, social development, infrastructure, environment and natural resources, project finance, private sector and business management.

Participants selected for the program will sign a 24-month contract with the Bank and will be treated as full employees who may be offered a permanent position. The program, established in 1970, is considered a starting point for a professional career at the IDB.

The IDB seeks to promote diversity by involving Afro-descendant and Indigenous professionals in its activities with governments and civil society. Candidates with such backgrounds are encouraged to take part in the program. In their case, the age limit is 35 years.

Selection process

Candidates will be selected based on their experience in fields in which the IDB works. They will be invited to interviews at the IDB headquarters in Washington, DC. The goal of these interviews is to evaluate characteristics such as the level of technical knowledge, analytic capabilities, ability to work in teams and to communicate clearly, and availability to travel on missions or to work in one of the country offices in Latin America or the Caribbean. Candidates pre-selected for interviews may also be asked to solve a case study and to provide references.

An internal selection process will take place ahead of the interviews. This process includes the evaluation of curricula vitae by the Human Resources Department, a technical evaluation by a team of senior IDB specialists and a selection by the panel that will conduct the interviews. The Bank will cover candidates' travel costs to Washington, DC for the interviews.
