Despite less than flattering weather conditions in London, I was determined to meet with newly published author, Jo-Annah Richards. Frankly, we have been trying to schedule an interview for quite a while to speak about her novel, The Ill Concepts of the Caribbean Woman. We were finally able to make it happen, before any more time elapsed.

The Ill Concepts of the Caribbean Woman is an aptly named novel that explores varying stereotypes and taboos within the Caribbean community, both within the region and throughout that Diaspora, that surrounds issues of sex, abortion, domestic violence and self esteem. The book delves into the psychological effects that some of these issues have on our women and also examines the misconceptions that are prevalent within our communities, that sometimes affect how these issues are handled.

The Ill Concepts of the Caribbean Woman is a riveting read. It fills a much needed void for women and our communities also, to be informed and inspired to make further inroads when tackling the issues raised in Jo-Annah's novel. MNI Alive would like to recommend Jo-Annah's novel as a must read.

I wanted to know more about what inspired Jo-Annah to write this novel. She explains in our interview. To listen, click on the play icon below:
